BCIB provides a qualified workforce for the construction of public infrastructure projects operating under the Community Benefits Agreement.

As the employer for all workers on these projects, BCIB makes sure British Columbians get access to good-paying, career-building jobs, skills development and apprenticeships. Providing opportunities to underrepresented workers such as Indigenous peoples, women and people with disabilities will help ensure our Province can meet labour market needs, today and into the future.

We are a BC Crown corporation, established in 2018 and incorporated under the Business Corporations Act.

Building A Better BC

Our Priorities

Building a Better BC

With a focus on local hiring, BCIB gives British Columbians access to work opportunities in their communities. Local workers can then build, invest and stay in their communities. Indigenous peoples, women and other traditionally underrepresented groups receive priority access to employment and training opportunities at BCIB.

BCIB also helps grow the next generation of construction workers needed in this Province. By maximizing apprenticeship openings on major public infrastructure projects, BCIB provides those starting out their careers in the skilled trades with excellent career paths and job opportunities.

BCIB’s Commitments

BCIB is committed to meeting the objectives set out in the Community Benefits Agreement by completing projects expeditiously, efficiently and economically, and in a way that provides direct benefits to the local communities and to the Province.

These benefits include the training and hiring of Indigenous peoples, local residents, and equity groups, which includes women in non-traditional jobs, people with disabilities and other underrepresented groups.

To realize these benefits, BCIB is committed to:

  • Developing and implementing policies and practices to ensure community benefits are realized to the greatest extent possible.

  • Establishing fair working conditions and practices that will apply to all employees working on the CBA projects.

  • Fostering work practices that will yield cost effectiveness and high-quality results and fair compensation for all participants for productive and quality work.

  • Cultivating a workplace free of discrimination and harassment and that is respectful of the cultural differences of all participants.

  • Providing apprenticeships and skills training to develop a skilled workforce that will meet the Province’s future labour needs.
